Go Away Then, Oberhofer

- last updated 8th May 2012

Apparently, the new album by Oberhofer, entitled Time Capsules II, was the 39th most anticipated album was this year, according to a list compiled by Stereogum. I am currently listening to said album and I believe that those anticipating it must have been terribly disappointed.

The background – Oberhofer are a band from New York who have been around for 4 or 5 years, and have just recorded and released their debut album. It’s reviewed in Q magazine which gave it three stars (out of a possible five) and describes it as “classy West Coast pop”. (Q also says an awful lot of other things about it, largely comparing it to as many completely obscure things as they can, because Q like to do that to make themselves sound knowledgeable.)

In complete fairness, the first three tracks weren’t that bad. In fact, I’ll be very honest – I rather liked it. But then on came Track 4, a little ditty entitled I Could Go. This song featured the lead singer, a gentleman called Brad Oberhofer, repeating the line “I could go, I could go, I could go away from you” over and over again until I desperately wished he would do just that. To make it worse, I could just tell that Brad was singing it with a terribly smug smirk on his stupid face, as if he knew nobody in the world would want him to go away from them. Well, take it from me, Brad – they do. So go on. I’m not even going waste further webspace talking about you.

So instead, I’d like to briefly mention a poster I saw today on my way home from work. It was advertising a tour for Psychic Sally – a popular TV psychic – who will be performing at Fareham’s Ferneham Hall soon. Not too remarkable, I admit. However, the poster did say “Psychic Sally – on the road!” This sounds more promising. I hope the road in question is the M27 at rush hour. And that Brad Oberhofer is there with her.
