To my manifest delight, this evening I discovered that Busta Toons (one of the idiots responsible for the He-Man and She-Ra Episode Review Website that I used to love so much) has not totally vanished from the internet. No. He has instead started up something called the He-Man and She-Ra Blog, which gives him the excuse to make pointless observations about both He-Man and She-Ra without reaching any kind of conclusions about them. Recent paragraphs on this blog have noted that the animators used the same shot of He-Man throwing a baddy at least three times in the course of the series (though whether Busta regards this as a good or bad thing is left unexplained), and back in March 2009 he gave the shock revelation that Prince Adam is only shown fixing a Sky Sled once in the entire series. He does not explain why he thinks we might care.
However, anything written about He-Man is, in my view, better than nothing, so I have carefully trawled the archives of this blog (well, actually, that’s a lie – I read the first two pages, which was as much as I could take before I felt my mind melting). I am happy to report that I found one worthwhile thing, which is this picture:
And I want to know, what the hell do He-Man and Battle-Cat think they’re doing? It’s obviously a picture from the end of some stupid storybook, at a point when He-Man has liberally distributed some punches in Skeletor’s direction, and Battle-Cat has done some important growling at something or other, but there’s really no need for this ridiculous pose, is there? I presume it’s supposed to be an imitation of the hero at the end of a western, but really, did we ever see He-Man do this in the series?
Battle-Cat is the more excusable of the two – we can’t see his face, so we don’t know whether he’s as ridiculously happy as He-Man is, and it’s not impossible that he’s trying to shake He-Man off his back, which would be pretty funny. But He-Man – really? His stupid grin suggests total mental collapse, and does not fill me with confidence that he could ever foil one of Skeletor’s schemes again.
Regrettably, I can’t think of an awful lot more to say about this picture, which sadly makes me little better than Busta Toons – a pointless observation, no conclusion. But that’s as good as it’s getting from me tonight, boys and girls, so live with it.
